Sanyo Ranks Highest in Customer Satisfaction With Wireless Mobile Phones

Posted on: Thursday, 11 November 2004, 12:00 CST

CHATSWORTH, Calif., Nov. 11 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Sanyo ranks "Highest In Overall Customer Satisfaction With Wireless Mobile Phones," according to the J.D. Power and Associates 2004 U.S. Wireless Mobile Phone Evaluation Study(SM)*. The study, in its third year, examines customer satisfaction with handsets of less than two years of ownership. A total of 13,458 households using wireless phones from the eight largest wireless handset providers participated in the 2004 study.

Overall customer satisfaction is assessed on five pre-defined factors: features, durability, physical design, battery function, and operation. Sanyo received the highest ratings in the study, consistently performing significantly above the industry average across all five factors.

"Sanyo's continued success is based on our ability to deliver on those factors time and again that are most important to our customers," said Atsushi Kodera, group vice president and general manager of Sanyo Fisher Company's Wireless Communications Division. "As a result, we consistently performed significantly above the industry average across all five factors."

The study finds customer ratings increased the most significantly over 2003 with the phone's features (increasing 8%), particularly in areas such as the ease of using text messaging and Internet features. "Our ongoing partnership with Sprint has helped us increase satisfaction performance and enhance the overall wireless experience," said Kodera.

"Sprint and Sanyo share a commitment to the customer," said John Garcia, senior vice president, sales and distribution, Sprint. "Together, we deliver new and innovative devices and services that are changing the way people view their mobile phones and receive information day-to-day, whether at home or on the go. We applaud Sanyo's continued success and are honored to be the exclusive provider of Sanyo devices in the U.S."

Sanyo's handsets have earned a reputation for features, design and technology in the U.S. wireless market. Sanyo was first in the U.S. to introduce a camera phone, and first to introduce a phone capable of walkie-talkie service with Sprint's Ready Link service. Sanyo's handsets offer a full complement of features that may include high quality speakerphone, bright LCD screens, VGA resolution photos, built-in flash, and stylish color options. The popular PM-8200 camera phone includes all these features in a compact clamshell design with a choice of four designer colors.

Building on its reputation as a leader in wireless handset technology, Sanyo recently introduced the MM-7400 Multimedia phone. This handset was named an Innovations 2005 Design and Engineering Showcase honoree in the Wireless Communications category. Innovations 2005 is the Consumer Electronics Association's (CEA) prestigious competition that honors product excellence in Design and Engineering. The MM-7400 allows customers to view on-demand streaming video and audio; shoot VGA pictures and extended 30-second video clips with the integrated camera and camcorder; and offers Sprint PCS Ready Link capabilities for walkie-talkie style communication. The interchangeable color faceplates are an option for those who want to make a fashion statement.
