SIRVA Deploys PGP Encryption Platform to Safeguard Customer and Employee Data

Posted on: Wednesday, 8 August 2007, 09:03 CDT

PALO ALTO, Calif., Aug. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- PGP Corporation, a global leader in enterprise data protection, today announced that SIRVA, Inc. , a global relocation services provider, is deploying a comprehensive PGP(R) solution to protect and defend its vast amount of customer and employee data.

SIRVA is a leader in providing relocation and moving solutions to consumers, corporations, and governments, conducting more than 300,000 relocations every year. Operating in more than 40 countries with approximately 5,000 employees, SIRVA has an extensive network of agents and other service providers in more than 175 countries. The company handles an enormous amount of detailed customer information that extends well beyond new and old addresses, highlighting the need protect its sensitive data. It also wanted to avoid costly, brand-damaging data breaches that continue to occur at alarming rates. The company is actively implementing the PGP(R) Encryption Platform, including PGP(R) Whole Disk Encryption, PGP(R) Desktop Email, PGP Universal(TM) Gateway Email, and PGP(R) Command Line to secure data on laptops and file servers as well as in email and file transfers. PGP Universal(TM) Server, the foundation of the PGP Encryption Platform architecture, provides central management of all platform-enabled applications.

"PGP Corporation offered the best approach for protecting our valuable information," said Chuck Shmayel, SIRVA's vice president of Infrastructure and Security. "The platform approach enabled us to quickly secure our laptops, which was a critical requirement, then ensure end-to-end email protection, and finally to encrypt our batch transfers. Using a single management console for deploying and monitoring all our encryption applications helps us maximize resources and ensure consistent policies with the best key management on the market."

Because SIRVA provides moving services for a global customer base, ensuring data protection and secure communications with customers, employees, and partners is essential. SIRVA chose PGP Whole Disk Encryption to protect intellectual property, customer data, and brand equity with transparent, full disk encryption, locking down a drive without changing user behavior or workflow. The application has already been deployed for the company's 500 mobile-user workforce.

SIRVA installed PGP Desktop Email for all employees who required secure internal communications and deployed PGP Universal Gateway Email for those who typically interact with customers and partners, ensuring a safe email communications structure. The company is in the process of upgrading to PGP Command Line for secure file transfers via FTP sites, replacing the previous combination of loosely integrated tools. All PGP(R) applications are built on the PGP Encryption Platform, which delivers a single, leveraged infrastructure that reduces IT operational costs and eliminates duplicative tasks, systems, training, and support issues. The PGP Encryption Platform is deployed with the first PGP application installed, enabling organizations like SIRVA to reap best-in-class encryption in phases or as business requirements emerge and evolve.

"Leaders work with leaders, and from day one we've been pleased with our selection of PGP Corporation. It's funny, but many of our employees actually asked about our encryption and data security strategy because we've all seen the news about various data breaches and lost laptops," said Shmayel. "None of us want to see SIRVA's name in those stories."
