Maryland License Scanning to Be Tested
August 10, 2007
Maryland State Police are starting a pilot program to speed up traffic stops by using computer equipment in troopers’ cars to scan the bar codes on driver’s licenses. The computer fills in the driver’s name and address for a traffic ticket and speeds the process of checking records for any outstanding warrants. Twenty troopers in the Central Maryland area are testing the technology between now and the end of the year.
