Video Electronics Standards Association (VESA) Completes Second DisplayPort(TM) PlugTest, Successful Demonstration of Compliance and Interoperability

The Video Electronics Standards Association, the worldwide leader in the development and promotion of open display interface standards, completed its second DisplayPort PlugTest as scheduled July 30-31 at the Embassy Suites Hotel in Milpitas, California.
Twenty-five computer, flat panel, component, and test equipment manufacturers, including Agilent, Advanced Micro Devices (AMD), DCP LLC, Dell, Intel, LG.Philips LCD, NVIDIA, Samsung Electronics and Tektronix, led the successful two days of testing of cables, transmitters, receivers, monitors and graphic cards that implement the DisplayPort version 1.1 standard.
Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. (NYSE:AMD) showcased the industry's first graphics processor with a native DisplayPort interface while Samsung Electronics unveiled their new 30-inch LCD flat panel that features the use of DisplayPort's extremely high 10.8 Gbps bandwidth to display a full 2560 x 1600 resolution picture without the use of dual links.
The PlugTest was designed to validate the DisplayPort Compliance Test Specifications (CTS) and Test Methods of Implementation (MOI) developed by VESA to ensure DisplayPort product interoperability.
In addition to the PlugTest, VESA held a comprehensive workshop covering a full range of topics on the DisplayPort standard, with presentations ranging from an update on Version 1.1 of the specification to interoperability guidelines for enabling interoperability between DisplayPort devices and DVI1.1/HDMI devices through the use of adaptors, to compliance test procedures. The workshop drew more than 100 attendees representing a 54% increase over the first DisplayPort PlugTest held in November 2006.
