Memec, a leading global semiconductor distributor specializing in demand creation, today announced that it has launched the Memec P160 Communications Module 2. The new module provides a set of peripherals and memory banks in a small, low cost daughter card form-factor, compatible with several Memec system boards containing the P160 expansion interface.
A next generation version of the original P160 Communications Module, the new module enables designers to implement and test FPGA-based processor and communications systems requiring the industry standard interfaces included on the module. Memec system boards supporting the Spartan-II, Spartan-IIE, Spartan-3, Virtex-II, Virtex-II Pro and Virtex-4 families all include the P160 interface and can support the communications module.
"The Memec P160 Communications Module 2 leverages our understanding of the customers' need to simplify application development while meeting time-to-market requirements," said Jim Beneke, director of technical marketing for Memec. "The development kit boasts new features to accomplish this quickly and effectively."
Replacing the discontinued P160 Communications Module 1, the new module features a PHY interface for 10/100/1000 Ethernet, UART to USB serial port, RS-232 port and a real-time clock function. In addition, it offers faster IDT SRAM to allow 100MHz operation.
Available from Memec Insight, the P160 Communications Module 2 is a useful add-on for many processor-based applications, including MicroBlaze and PowerPC applications, IP development, Ethernet and Internet applications, as well as general-purpose development. Customers can order the new module, part number DS-KIT-P160-COMM2, for $175 by calling Memec Insight at (800) 677-7716 or visiting http://www.memec.com/p160.
