Waco to Get Computer Recycling Store

Posted on: Monday, 20 August 2007, 15:02 CDT

Residents of Waco, Texas, will soon be able to recycle old computers and computer-related equipment.

At the end of August, Goodwill Industries is scheduled to open a store in Waco called Computer Works that will accept donations of old computers and related items, The Waco Tribune-Herald reported Monday.

Some of the donations will be refurbished for resale while the rest will be disassembled and discarded in a way that keeps the items out of the town landfill, Goodwill officials said.

Austin Goodwill, which will run the store until it is financially stable, has more than a decade of experience in recycling and refurbishing computers, Christine Banks, vice president of environmental business for Goodwill Industries of Central Texas., told the Tribune-Herald.

We build a pretty sweet machine, said Banks, adding that a complete system with a monitor and keyboard will probably sell for $175 to $300.

The Waco store will initially employ 10 people.

Officials are expecting it to be a money-maker once it gets established, the newspaper said.
