Green Packet Rolls Out Integrated Solution
By Siti Syameen Md Khalili
GREEN Packet Berhad has launched an intelligent software platform, SONbuddy Connect! Featuring an integrated communications and connectivity framework that allows online and offline peer-to- peer applications.
Via a strategic partnership with MOR(F) Interactive Communication Pty Ltd and E-Gal Corporation Sdn Bhd, the platform will be enhanced with MOR(F)’s Moji Intelligent Instant Messenger and Virtual Pet system and marketed by E-Gal’s 1,500-strong trained workforce.
According to Green Packet Berhad’s general manager Kelvin Lee, the SONbuddy platform enables any Wi-Fi-equipped device to form a spontaneous Self-Organising Network (SON).
“SONbuddy automatically seeks, organises and maintains a peer-to- peer and peer-to-multi-peer ad hoc community network. A rich set of built-in applications enables the exchange of information and Internet sharing with your network members without using an access point or a router,” Lee says.
MOR(F)’s Moji Intelligent Instant Messenger and Virtual Pet system is powered by Artificial Intelligence, Natural Language Processing and realtime 3-D engine technologies.
The Moji Intelligent Messenger is the world’s first fully real- time 3-D instant messenger, claims MOR(F) Interactive Communication Pty Ltd’s chief executive officer Robert Fong.
He adds that the unified instant messenger bundles in chat, social networking, and virtual world systems that allows users to breed, chat directly and command their virtual pets into action in real time.
With features that appeal to the younger generation, Green Packet is confident of getting three million users on board the SONbuddy platform within the next 18 months. While leveraging on E-Gal’s marketing expertise, there will also be promotions via roadshows and visits to universities.
Lokman Razani Razak, executive chairman of E-Gal Corporation Sdn Bhd believes the partnership will help Green Packet and MOR(F) develop new market segments and grow into similar segments within the region. “We feel that there is a market out there that we can tap into as it caters to young IT enthusiasts who seek a single platform to service their needs in a personalised manner, whether for business or personal functions,” says Lokman.
Currently the software is free for download. In the next few months Green Packet will be rolling out premium services such as the capability to share Internet access, resources, screen and multimedia among users which will involve charges, reveals Lee.
The partnership with MOR(F) and E-Gal is also in line with Green Packet’s expansion plan. The alliance has already started discussions with telecommunication service providers in the Philippines, Singapore and Thailand, proposing similar business module as offered to Telekom Malaysia Berhad’s iTalk Buddy which was launched earlier. Powered by the SONbuddy platform, iTalk Buddy users are offered online and offline communications, virtual intelligent pet, instant messaging, voice calls, file sharing and Internet connection sharing.
