Medio Systems, the leader in mobile search and mobile advertising, announced today it has appointed John C. Kim to the newly created position of vice president of product management and product marketing. Kim will report to chief operating officer, Robert Lilleness.
Kim joins Medio with over six years of experience in the search advertising market, most recently from Yahoo! Search Marketing where he held the position of senior director of strategic and product marketing. There, he played a key role developing the original vision and marketing requirements and led the go-to-market phase for Project Panama, Yahoo's new search marketing platform. Kim built both the YSM Inbound and Outbound Product Marketing teams and functions. Under Kim's leadership, the team conceptualized and built requirements for many advertising products and features released as part of Panama for future roadmap consideration. Kim also led a unified offering strategy designed to bring together Yahoo!'s search marketing products into a more coherent, compelling offering. While at Yahoo!, Kim also served as a White House appointee who advised the President on increasing the level of Asian American and Pacific Islander small business contribution to the national economy. Kim originally joined Yahoo! as part of the Overture Services acquisition where he was director of marketing. Prior to this, Kim worked as a strategy consultant at Accenture where he advised executives at leading high-tech companies on potential new ventures and growth strategies. Prior to that, he held various marketing and product positions with Bank of America and Household International, Inc., now part of HSBC. Kim received a B.A. in economics from University of California, Santa Barbara and an MBA from the University of Chicago.
"John brings a unique combination of search marketing and strategic experience which will be invaluable as we continue our explosive growth. He is one of the few individuals who has expertise as far back as the Overture days, extending into a successful run at Yahoo! and now brings that combined expertise to Medio and the new Mobile Search marketplace we are building. Clearly, John will significantly augment our efforts in both the search and advertising spaces," said Lilleness.
"I am excited to be part of a world-class team dedicated to making the mobile internet more accessible, relevant and useful for the consumer," said Kim. "Medio is in a great position with its carrier relationships, world-class personalization and recommendation capabilities and leadership in mobile search to re-define mobile advertising."
