All Set Fair for Village’s Big Day Out
By Dave Black
ORGANISERS are hoping for good weather and bumper crowds for a Northumberland seaside church’s annual summer fair today.
The event at St Bartholomew’s Church in Newbiggin-by-the-Sea includes a festival of flowers, the village show and the fair itself over the course of this weekend.
The flower festival, with a theme of the four seasons, will be open to the public from 10am to 4pm today, from 1.30pm tomorrow and from 10am to 4pm on Monday.
This morning entries will be accepted until 10.30am from people who want to take part in the village show, which will be held in the church centre with classes including arts and crafts, flowers and vegetables.
Pupils from Moorside and Windsor First schools have contributed a large number of entries in the children’s section.
Entries can be viewed today and tomorrow from 1.30pm to 4pm, with a 25p admission charge.
Church services tomorrow include a 9.30am parish communion and a village Songs of Praise at 6.30pm, and a community pageant will be staged along the promenade from the lifeboat station at 1.30pm tomorrow.
Monday is fair day in the church centre, starting at 11am, and the whole event culminates on Friday with a ceilidh, featuring the Fiddlers Elbow Band, in the village sports and community centre.
