TapRoot Systems Inc., a leading provider of embedded software solutions and reference platforms for Smartphones announced today participation in Linux Mobile Communications Conference in Beijing, China, on August 28th. The Linux Mobile Communications Conference is being co-hosted by China Academy Telecommunication Researches (CATR) of The Chinese Ministry of Information Industry and Trolltech®, a provider of leading technologies that make advanced software faster to build and easier to use.

As a silver sponsor, TapRoot will be demonstrating LinuxTel™, which is their commercial grade Linux Telephony software. LinuxTel provides the important bridge between the underlying hardware and the applications layer by using a comprehensive set of API's for communication with 2G to 3G networks. LinuxTel increases productivity for phone developers by providing the hardware and telephony services abstraction layers. The telephony solution supports Trolltech's Qtopia Greensuite initiative.

"Development of Linux mobile phones is on the rise and is changing the landscape of the mobile phone industry," said Rick Phung, TapRoot Director of Product Management. "Our LinuxTel telephony software is a critical piece of the offering for mobile phone development. We are looking forward to demonstrating the capabilities of LinuxTel at the Linux Mobile Communication Conference."

In addition, TapRoot provides a host of other Smartphone software solutions for Linux including Wireless LAN and WiMAX technologies. These include: device drivers for market leading 802.11 chipsets, security supplicants, advanced roaming technologies, optimized power management and testing tools to enable customers to quickly deliver high quality Linux based devices.

By 2011, the number of advanced mobile phones that run Linux OS is expected to increase to 127 million from 8.1 million this year, according to ABI research. Worldwide mobile phone sales reached $115.5 billion in 2006, and WiFi phone sales topped $535 million, up 13 percent and 327 percent from 2005, respectively, says analyst firm Infonetics Research.
