Trend Micro Extends Web Threat Protection for Enterprises With New InterScan Web Security Appliance

Posted on: Tuesday, 28 August 2007, 12:16 CDT

CUPERTINO, Calif., Aug. 28 /PRNewswire/ -- Trend Micro Incorporated , a leader in network antivirus and content security software and services, today announced the latest in its portfolio of solutions that provide Web threat protection to business customers. Trend Micro InterScan(TM) Web Security Appliance offers an all-in-one approach for protecting the network from incoming attacks such as virus, spyware, malicious Web sites and inappropriate Web content.

The appliance is available in two versions, InterScan Web Security Appliance Standard and InterScan Web Security Appliance Advanced. InterScan Web Security Advanced provides customers with fully integrated, policy based URL Filtering and Applet and ActiveX Security in addition to the InterScan Web Security Standard version features.

InterScan Web Security Appliance now includes real-time Web reputation from Trend Micro, which assesses the safety of a Web page based on both behavior and content. This industry-leading reputation technology complements the powerful content scanning and URL filtering capabilities the product has had for years.

Web sites are rapidly becoming the number one infection vector for malware. Unlike past malware that arrived bearing a single payload, today's profit driven malware is designed to download multiple malware components without the victims' knowledge. Through its multi-pronged approach to security threats, InterScan Web Security Appliance is designed to solve many of the security challenges facing IT departments and corporate end users.

One of the more pressing problems facing IT administrators today is the infection of laptops and other mobile devices that are used outside the corporate network. When reconnected to the network, malware is then able to infect other devices and even leak an enterprise's intellectual property and other data out to the Internet. In addition to blocking outbound transmissions to malware-driven servers on the Internet, InterScan Web Security Appliance is tightly integrated with Trend Micro's Damage Cleanup Services. This solution automatically repairs and restores endpoints when outbound malware events are detected at the Web gateway.

InterScan Web Security Appliance offers companies a 'plug-and-protect' approach to securing their Web gateway. Incoming and outgoing traffic is analyzed enabling the appliance to act as the missing link in the enterprise security chain. A Web-based console provides administrators central management and maximum flexibility in defining access rights for delegated administration. As with all Trend Micro enterprise solutions, multiple InterScan Web Security Appliances can be centrally managed by Trend Micro Control Manager(TM). This central management allows administrators to effectively monitor and manage an entire multi-layered security solution portfolio from Trend Micro.

"Protecting against Web threats is a key challenge for enterprise organizations," said Tom Miller, vice president and general manager of Trend Micro Enterprise business unit. "Robust, easy to manage security that provides a proactive solution to these insidious attacks is needed. InterScan Web Security Appliance clearly fits this need."

The InterScan Product Family

Other products in the InterScan family include (and are not limited to) InterScan Web Security Suite, InterScan Messaging Security Suite, InterScan Gateway Security Appliance, InterScan VirusWall(TM) for SMB (small and medium-sized businesses), and InterScan WebProtect(TM) for the Microsoft Internet Security and Acceleration server.
