Indonesia: 5th Conference of Asian Chemical Fiber Industries in Bali

Posted on: Tuesday, 23 November 2004, 03:00 CST

The 5th Conference of Asian Chemical Fiber Industries was held in BaIi, Indonesia on September 9th and 10th. Katsunosuke Maeda, Honorable Chairman of ACFI, said that Asian countries and regions should collaborate tightly with each other in order to achieve healthy advancement of the man-made fiber industry, whose production make up 75% of the world total.

Maeda presented his idea to create a communiqu based on the Asian MMF Vision. At the conference, Junji Tsumura, Chairman of the Japan Chemical Fibers Association, pointed out that synthetic fiber makers in China and India are still positive about increasing their synthetic fiber capacities. The communiqu also indicates that excessive production capacity will worsen the supply-demand relationship and hurt the business environment. "Margins tend to decrease as a result of serious price competition on the Asian polyester market. Fiber makers should make efforts to develop new materials for getting out of the slump," he said.

The 6th conference is scheduled to be held in April 2006 under the sponsorship of the Korea Chemical Fibers Association.
