Tektronix Enhances GeoProbe to Support Mobile Interfaces for IP Converged Networks

September 5, 2007

BEAVERTON, Ore., Sept. 5 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ — Tektronix, Inc. , a leading worldwide provider of communications network management and diagnostics solutions, announced enhancements to its GeoProbe Network Assurance solution, part of the industry-leading Unified Assurance suite of applications for management of next generation converged networks. The enhancements enable network operators to monitor new interfaces Gb/IP, IuFlex and A-interface over SIGTRAN for IP converged transport networks, building on the extensive capability of the GeoProbe platform to perform real-time, multi-protocol, cross-architecture performance monitoring.

IP convergence not only impacts the way operators view their networks — from the service and application level — it also impacts the underlying transport networks and associated technologies and protocols in the delivery of video, voice and data services. The transport network is evolving into a highly reliable, converged all-IP network for multi-media content. This converged approach allows operators to achieve greater operational efficiencies and maintain competitiveness by reducing network capital costs and operational expenses.

“Operators are evolving from legacy networks to IP switched and routed networks. They need monitoring systems that can be easily and affordably upgraded to support new interfaces and new services,” said Doug Dickerson, Vice President and General Manager, Network Management, Tektronix. “By working closely with the world’s largest network operators, we have developed a highly scalable and adaptable system to support the monitoring of signaling and media on converged transport networks to help our customers address new growth opportunities.”

As Tektronix’ GeoProbe has proven in global fixed and mobile networks, its capabilities enable network operator personnel to proactively monitor, manage, diagnose, and troubleshoot the overall health and performance of mobile, fixed, and multi-service networks. In supporting customer migrations to all-IP networks, Tektronix has enhanced GeoProbe’s monitoring capabilities to include the monitoring of Gb/IP, IuFlex interfaces and A-interface over SIGTRAN for real-time, end-to-end visibility of services running on mobile networks. By supporting these new interfaces, Tektronix helps operators reduce their technology risk by decreasing the number of network elements, interfaces and protocols they need to support and maintain.

With correct planning and probe layout, network operators have the ability to drill down from a service level to the media and transport levels to identify faulty network elements, interfaces or protocols that are impacting the transport network and service delivery.

The GeoProbe product is part of Tektronix’ Unified Assurance suite of applications that provide operators the ability to monitor networks, services and customers for both legacy and IP transport networks all on the same platform. Global consulting company Frost & Sullivan recently awarded Tektronix with the 2007 Market Leadership Award in Network Monitoring. According to Frost & Sullivan, Tektronix maintains its market leadership position based on its strong Unified Assurance solution, brand awareness, proven financial growth strategy and global presence.
