A protest for the right to breastfeed at an Applebee's restaurant in Nicholasville, Ky., will apparently go national, thanks to extensive Internet coverage.
Brooke Ryan's fight to be able to breastfeed her baby inside the restaurant will expand to include demonstrations at 60 of the restaurant chain's locations nationwide, The Lexington (Ky.) Herald-Leader said Wednesday.
An Applebee's manager in June asked Ryan to cover herself up while breastfeeding her baby. After her story hit the Internet, Ryan found herself as a figurehead for a nationwide campaign against the popular restaurant chain.
Diane Targovnik of Phoenix told the newspaper what prompted her to organize a demonstration at her local Applebee's.
Those of us who do breastfeed stick together, she said. When this came up, we were all ready.
Applebee's has offered to provide nursing mothers with blankets they could use during breastfeeding.
