TSO will launch new ticketing service

The Tucson Symphony Orchestra is no longer selling tickets through Ticketmaster.

But you can still point and click your way into the Music Hall for orchestra performances once the TSO launches its ticketing service through The Patron Edge Online on Monday.

TSO’s marketing and public relations head, Sue DeBenedette, said the new service will drastically cut the amount of money that patrons pay in ticket service fees with their former ticketbroker, Ticketmaster.

For single tickets, the TSO will charge a $4 handling fee per order – whether you buy one ticket or 100 – compared with Ticketmaster’s per-ticket charges. Subscription handling fees are $1 more, she said.

The TSO also charges a $1 facility fee, imposed by the Tucson Convention Center, DeBenedette noted. Ticketmaster also charged this fee.

UA seeking youths for outreach band

The University of Arizona is recruiting players for its Outreach Honor Band, an ensemble composed of sixth- to ninth-graders from the Tucson area.

The band, a venture of the UA School of Music, boasts between 50 and 70 members, said coordinator Robert Bayless. Players hail from schools throughout the area, including students who are home- schooled.

The band is part of the music school’s public outreach program, which includes a choir and string project. Participants range in age from younger than 5 to teens.

“It gives them another outlet and another opportunity,” Bayless said.

Prospective students must fill out an online application (http:web.cfa.arizona.edu/ uabands/outreachband) and perform at the audition, which begins Tuesday. The first rehearsal is Sept. 22.

For more information, call Bayless at 621-7469.
