CA Receives Top Scores in Independent Firm’s Analysis of Client Management Products
ISLANDIA, N.Y., Nov. 29 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Computer Associates International, Inc. today announced that its Unicenter operations management and eTrust security management software received the highest scores for patch management, asset discovery and market presence in the November 2004 Forrester Client Systems Management TechRankings. CA was among seven companies that Forrester invited to participate in the evaluation, and received the highest scores in three categories. CA also received high scores for software/OS management, and administration and management.
CA's Unicenter desktop management software and the patch management capability of eTrust vulnerability management software were evaluated against approximately 200 criteria in the Forrester hands-on, scenario-based lab environment. Solutions evaluated in eight different categories were those that provided, at minimum, asset discovery, software deployment and patch management capabilities as part of an integrated solution or as separate components."Precise, automated administration of desktop resources is critical to the ongoing performance of the digital enterprise," said Juliette Sultan, senior vice president of product marketing at CA. "Forrester's assessment of CA's solutions in this space confirms once again that CA is the premier technology management software provider for the enterprise."
Unicenter desktop management products evaluated by Forrester included Unicenter Asset Management, a powerful solution for proactively managing IT assets in a business environment; Unicenter Software Delivery, which provides a highly scalable and automated means of distributing software across servers, desktop PCs, laptops/notebooks, PDAs and mobile phones; and Unicenter Desktop DNA, a scalable solution for managing, migrating, and maintaining PC data, system settings, application settings and configurations.
eTrust Vulnerability Manager combines vulnerability assessment, automated patch and configuration management, remediation and compliance analysis into a single solution -- enabling IT personnel to perform all critical vulnerability-related tasks from a common, intuitive web interface. Through integration with CA's Unicenter Software Delivery and other eTrust security management software solutions, eTrust Vulnerability Manager enables customers to link their vulnerability management measures with their change management processes -- thereby eliminating a common cause of temporary security exposure.
"Forrester expects to see much stronger integration between client management and security in the next two years. Firms already struggle with interrelated manageability and security issues for mobile devices," noted David Friedlander, senior analyst at Forrester. In his September 2004 report, How to Evaluate Client Systems Management Tools, he adds that "Security buyers also control more systems management spending than they did previously. Thus, clients should evaluate CSM tools using future security requirements and should favor CSM vendors with clear road maps for integrating CSM and client security."
