University of San Francisco Selects NEC Unified Solutions to Overhaul Its Communications Network
IRVING, Texas, Nov. 29 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- NEC Unified Solutions, Inc. (NEC) a leader in integrated communications solutions for the enterprise, today announced that it was selected by The University of San Francisco (USF) to replace its existing communications infrastructure at its main campus in the heart of San Francisco. NEC is deploying a progressive, multi-million dollar voice and data network with future potential for IP Communications (IPC) enhancements. With the new infrastructure, USF expects to gain a robust, reliable communications platform that will keep the University competitive.
The network overhaul, which began in June 2004, provides the University with improved network speeds on campus, redundancy for critical network and communications equipment, and more extensive network management and security tools.
Integral to the communication solution is a Cisco based network infrastructure, which NEC is designing, implementing, and supporting - from the core network to the edge access switches. NEC is providing on-going support services to the entire University of San Francisco network, including NEC and Cisco equipment, via its NEC Secure support service. This support service will assist University of San Francisco in ensuring the availability of mission-critical systems.
"We chose NEC Unified Solutions to revamp our voice/data network because they have a strong reputation in the higher education market for delivering robust and reliable communications solutions, said Tracy Schroeder, CIO of USF. "We were looking for a one-stop-shop that could design a complete, integrated system and successfully execute all aspects of this large project, from trenching and construction to voice and data network cutover. NEC's commitment to customer service, flexibility in adapting to our needs, and mix of products and services made them the right choice for us."
"Our goal with the University's infrastructure was to leverage the resources of our development teams, strategic partners and channels across all NEC entities and deliver the experience necessary to provide the University with a true single-source provider of enterprise communications," said Robert Bliss, vice president of NEC Unified Solutions. "We are confident that the University's modernized network will enable it to support the growing demands of its student population while delivering USF with a more manageable solution that can seamlessly migrate to IP Telephony, when it makes sense for them."
