EdgeCast Networks today announced that EdgeCast is an Adobe® Flash Video Streaming Service partner and that EdgeCast has launched its integrated streaming and global edge caching solution for Adobe® Flash® Media Server.
The service brings together highly scalable Flash Player video streaming, an advanced Adobe Flash Media Server feature set, and EdgeCast's global content delivery network into a media platform that enables exceptional delivery of Flash Player video experiences to users around the world.
"Flash Player compatible video continues to see explosive growth, especially within the media and entertainment communities," said Kevin Towes, product manager, Flash Media Server at Adobe. "Our new relationship with EdgeCast will give our Flash streaming publishers a one-stop global platform for distributing rich media."
The EdgeCast content delivery network is architected for the large files of today's rich media Internet. EdgeCast gives publishers their own dedicated storage space on the network's edge, ensuring their media is as close as possible to end users. The EdgeCast content delivery network includes Tier One exchange points around the world.
"The unmatched reach of the Adobe Flash Player makes Adobe Flash Media Server an essential component of any serious streaming media toolset," said James Segil, president of EdgeCast Networks. "We're excited to be working with Adobe and giving our media and entertainment customers an edge in rich media content delivery."
Adobe Flash Media Server combines traditional streaming media capabilities and a flexible development environment for creating and delivering innovative, interactive media applications. Flash Player compatible video is delivered via Adobe Flash Player, enabling content publishers to reach the largest possible audience on the web and to deploy high-quality online video across all major platforms and browsers, while lowering the costs of development, quality assurance, and support. Adobe Flash Player is currently installed on more than 98 percent of desktops and mobile devices around the world.
