NetLogic Microsystems Selects Ixia for 10-Gigabit, Real-World Traffic Emulation
Ixia (NASDAQ:XXIA), a leading global provider of IP performance test systems, announced today that NetLogic Microsystems, Inc., a leader in the design and development of knowledge-based processors, will use Ixia’s test solutions at the Intel Developer Forum (IDF) at the Moscone Center in San Francisco, September 18-20, to demonstrate the performance of its 10 Gigabits per second (Gbps) NETL7™ Layer-7 knowledge-based processor. NetLogic Microsystems will use Ixia’s 10 Gigabit Ethernet Application & Streams Module, which is comprised of its IxLoad™ test application and the XMV12X 10GbE Load Module, to demonstrate its processor’s ability to perform bit-by-bit inspection of packets traveling through Enterprise and carrier-class networks at 10 Gbps wire speeds. While Ixia’s competition is limited to 5 Gbps, Ixia is the only solution that generates stateful application traffic at 10 Gbps.
At the IDF, NetLogic Microsystems will demonstrate a collaborative reference platform that incorporates its NETL7 knowledge-based processors with the latest Intel® Quad-Core Xeon® processors to showcase in the industry’s first 10 Gbps server-based security appliance and application networking platform based on the Intel Architecture. Typical applications include Layer-7 application switches and routers, unified threat management (UTM) appliances, intrusion detection and prevention systems (IDS/IPS), anti-virus gateways and malware protection.
Ixia’s 10 Gigabit Ethernet Application & Streams Module, announced in May, is the first test solution on a single blade that emulates line-rate, real-world (stateful) 1 GbE and 10 GbE traffic. Ixia IxLoad assesses the performance of Triple-Play networks and devices by generating subscriber traffic. It also generates malicious traffic to test security.
NetLogic Microsystems’ NETL7 processors can inspect every bit in every packet at a line rate of 10 Gbps while inspecting application, virus, hacker intrusion and spam signatures for next-generation security and content-aware networking products.
“We selected Ixia because of the superior performance of the 10 Gigabit Ethernet Application & Streams Module, which met the challenge of generating and testing 10 Gbps of application-layer traffic for our demonstration,” said Kelvin Khoo, director of strategic marketing at NetLogic Microsystems. “The complexity of traffic in next generation networks and applications requires a new class of advanced test and verification solutions. We are excited to be working with Ixia and using their 10 Gigabit Ethernet Application & Streams Module at IDF to test and verify the performance of our 10 Gbps reference platform.”
The Ixia solution can test and verify even the most resource-intensive mix of services and applications. That’s because Ixia’s 10 Gigabit Ethernet Application & Streams Module can aggregate the processing power of multiple onboard, high-performance CPUs through one or more ports.
As Enterprises roll out 10 GbE to satisfy the increasing need for bandwidth, they will have both 1 GbE and 10 GbE present in their network. Ixia’s 10 Gigabit Ethernet Application & Streams Module ensures performance and security by emulating traffic conditions and patterns that closely mirror the conditions of the live deployment of devices and applications. Ixia’s ability to aggregate and target the separate CPUs within its test systems at an individual port enables most stateful and realistic emulation of video, voice and data and potential threats to network security. The 10 Gigabit Ethernet Application & Streams Module, in conjunction with the Optixia® XM12 chassis, provides flexibility and high performance in just 10 units of rack space. This solution reduces capex and opex by eliminating the need to purchase and maintain or train personnel to use multiple platforms.
“Customer demand for increasingly sophisticated and interdependent IP-based services and applications are driving the rollout of 10 GbE,” said Victor Alston, senior vice president of Product Development for Ixia. “We are glad to have been selected by NetLogic Microsystems for their 10 Gbps security appliance and application networking demonstration at the IDF event. The 10 Gigabit Ethernet Application & Streams Module not only extends our technology leadership in Ethernet, but assures Enterprises and Network Equipment Vendors that their services and security devices can be deployed without negative impact to subscribers’ quality of experience.”
