Wal-Mart Stores Inc. & AT&T Make It Easy For Consumers To Donate 'Phone Minutes' To Troops Overseas

BEDMINSTER, N.J., Nov. 30 /PRNewswire/ -- Wal-Mart Stores, Inc., and AT&T have partnered to give shoppers an opportunity to donate phone card minutes to our servicemen. Effective immediately, customers and members who currently own or purchase an AT&T PrePaid Phone Card from Wal-Mart or SAM'S CLUB can donate minutes from their cards to members of the military.
Customers can direct a portion of the minutes on their cards to the USO by dialing the "800" number on the back of the card and following the voice prompts. The USO, in turn, will make blocks of minutes available to servicemen and women stationed overseas and give them the ability to call friends and loved ones in the U.S.
"AT&T PrePaid Phone Cards continue to be an important link to America's soldiers, sailors, Marines and airmen and women trying to keep in touch with the people important to them," said Kevin Leonard, AT&T Vice President. "Not only do the cards produce great savings for consumers, but by creating the ability to donate minutes through our prepaid enhanced-services platform, the cards can make a difference to those serving our country."
"During this holiday season, this offering will give our customers and Members additional avenues to stay in touch with their family members and friends currently serving in the military," said Doug McMillon, executive vice president SAM'S CLUB Merchandise. "Wal-Mart and SAM'S CLUB continue to support our troops around the globe and are thankful for their service."
This joint AT&T-Wal-Mart initiative will continue through Dec. 31, 2004, in the nearly 3,600 Wal-Mart and SAM'S CLUB stores across the country.
