Soapstone Networks Recognized By IEC As 2007 Infovision Award Finalist for Top Telecom Innovations

Avici Systems' (NASDAQ:AVCI), Soapstone Networks, today announced that its Provider Network Controller (PNC) ™ has been selected by International Engineering Consortium (IEC) as a 2007 InfoVision award finalist for top telecom innovations. IEC InfoVision Awards program gives tribute to the technologies, applications, products, advances and services judged as the most unique and beneficial to the information and communications technology (ICT) industry. The Soapstone PNC product was recognized in the New Product Concepts Category.

The finalists were selected by a panel of judges chosen from the Broadband World Forum Europe 2007 Technical Program Committee, which consists of industry experts from vendor companies, service providers and industry associations.

Entries were judged by a panel of industry experts according to the following criteria:

Value of service or technology in solving recognized technology problems, meeting network requirements, optimizing service and performance, and/or enhancing customer service

Overall quality of innovation and contribution to technology advancement

Originality and vision

Potential contribution towards positive industry growth and service

Market success/acceptance (where applicable)

Contribution to end-user quality-of-experience and service efficiency

InfoVision winners will be announced during an awards ceremony at the Broadband World Forum Europe 2007 on Tuesday, October 9, 2007 at 11:30am at the World Forum.

The Soapstone Networks PNC mediates between multiple resource requests from the OSS services/control layer via a standard SOA based interface. The PNC dynamically models the available and occupied capacity of the network, selecting the best path based on modeling along with any other QoS based constraints. Services on the network are dynamically migrated to allow the restoration of backup paths in the event of a hard failure or to allow network equipment to be taken on/off line. The PNC continuously monitors for SLA compliance as well as network faults, allowing intelligent fault remediation as well as fault reporting between network operation and provisioned services.
