Posted on: Monday, 24 September 2007, 12:00 CDT

Proximex, developers of award-winning solutions for the physical security market, proudly announced today that Jack Smith has joined the company as chief executive officer. At Proximex, Mr. Smith will be responsible for expanding the company's market leadership position, and extending its products into additional markets that show strong demand for intelligent and unified security solutions.

"The physical security industry has entered an era where far greater intelligence and efficacy are demanded by customers," said Mr. Smith. "Customers need solutions that enable them to act more effectively and efficiently. Proximex leads this charge with innovative technologies that ensure incidents are no longer trapped within disparate systems, but brought together in context, then managed and integrated into the customers' workflow. I'm very pleased to join Proximex and lead them on this path to success."

Mr. Smith is known for his positions as co-founder, inventor and chief technology officer at Hotmail, the first Web-based email service. Hotmail sparked an Internet revolution and, even today, remains the category leader. After Hotmail was sold to Microsoft in 1997, Mr. Smith focused on advanced approaches to infrastructure challenges. Then, Mr. Smith served as co-founder and chief executive officer of Akamba Corporation where he invented and marketed the first Web server accelerator card that boosted server performance by 300 percent. Prior to founding Hotmail in 1996, Mr. Smith designed integrated circuits for FirePower Systems, a subsidiary of Canon, and also worked on Apple Computer's early PowerBooks.
