Commercial Mobile Multimedia Gateway Launched
Skycore LLC, a global leader in MMS messaging and value added services, has partnered with Digital Solutions, the creators of the Mbuni Open Source MMSC, to create a commercial version of Mbuni suitable for large network operators. This version of Mbuni will come with improved features, priority support and on-going maintenance. Operators and service providers licensing this version will not be limited by the Open Source (GPL) restrictions, including having to release their customizations to the public domain.
A mobile operator MMSC provides core network switching of MMS traffic, just as the SMSC provides message switching for SMS traffic. Mbuni MMSC enables mobile operators and service providers the ability to offer innovative Multimedia Messaging Services (MMS) to subscribers. Most modern mobile handsets support MMS, making it possible for subscribers to easily and instantly exchange photos, videos, audio and other multimedia content. This partnership will allow Mobile Network Operators (MNO) to continue to use Mbuni commercially, and the full potential offered by MMS, in a cost effective, proprietary and reliable manner.
Mbuni boasts over 150 installations worldwide, and has been deployed commercially by several live network operators around the world. Mbuni is built to run on a Linux platform with each build capable of supporting hundreds of MMS messages per second. Mbuni was originally developed on an open source model and has been refined collaboratively over the past four years.
