Hennepin County in Minnesota has selected and deployed Infoblox appliances to deliver internal and external domain name resolution, a core network service that plays an essential role in almost all network applications.

Hennepin County has two data centers, nine campus buildings and more than 30 remote sites. The county has deployed eight Infoblox appliances running the DNSone package for external and internal domain name resolution (DNS). The installation of the Infoblox appliances has almost eliminated DNS-related administrative cycles and they have been able to perform DNS upgrades in minutes, keeping systems up to date and secure.

Marciene Ingram, network communications security and internet team lead of Hennepin County operations, said: “The outages were a real wake-up call and forced us to examine our network services infrastructure. There were some fundamental issues with our current DNS solutions, including the fact that the BIND software was not up to date, making our systems vulnerable to attacks. We also needed a solution with both primary and secondary high availability, something our current system did not offer.”
