Facebook Web Site Faces Investigations

The Facebook social networking Web site is facing investigations from multiple U.S. state attorneys general over concerns about online sexual predators.
New York Attorney General Andrew Cuomo said his office is looking into whether Facebook's statements about the safety of its network constitute false claims, the Los Angeles Times reported Tuesday.
Cuomo said an undercover investigation found that complaints about sexual solicitations of underage users were not immediately addressed by the Palo Alto, Calif., company. He has filed subpoenas to learn more about Facebook's policies and procedures.
It does not have the right to represent that its site is safe and that it promptly responds to complaints when such statements are not accurate, Cuomo said.
Meanwhile, Connecticut Attorney general Richard Blumenthal and North Carolina Attorney General Roy Cooper announced they are leading a joint investigation by all 50 states into predatory sexual activity on social networking sites. They met with Facebook officials last week.
Facebook has a long way to go before we are satisfied, Blumenthal said.
