SAN ANTONIO, Sept. 27 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ — AT&T Inc. has announced that AT&T will host a job-shadowing event with Junior Achievement students from the Greater Kansas City area Thursday, Sept. 27, at 5 p.m. at the 1813 Village West Parkway AT&T store. Students will get an up-close visit with Jeff Burton, driver for the Richard Childress Racing team, as he prepares for the NASCAR Nextel Cup Series race at the Kansas Speedway.

The job shadow will include time with Jeff Burton at the AT&T Pit Stop, which includes a replica Jeff Burton No. 31 car and a tire-changing station. The students will also have an opportunity to interact with Ralph de la Vega, San Antonio-based AT&T president of Regional Telecommunications and Entertainment, through an AT&T Video Share call. Video Share is a groundbreaking new service that enables users to share live video over wireless devices while participating in a voice call.

Job shadowing involves teens shadowing an adult “career mentor” in his or her place of work. This allows students to better understand what happens in the typical day of a career that interests them. Students also have an opportunity to speak with these mentors about the skills and education needed to do these professions.

“Our goal is to help young people understand the connection between what they learn in the classroom and success in the workplace,” said Matt Dillane, president and executive director of Junior Achievement of Middle America. “Our young people represent tomorrow’s workforce and the future of our communities. Junior Achievement is grateful for the partnership that we have with AT&T and our mutual commitment to encourage positive change in the lives of youth.”

Former AT&T President Theodore Vail co-founded Junior Achievement in 1918. AT&T’s long-standing support of the organization includes funding and volunteer efforts for several of its programs.

“AT&T is proud to support Junior Achievement and its efforts to educate young people about business, economics and entrepreneurship,” said de la Vega. “Junior Achievement members crave opportunity, want to be successful and dream big about the future. With AT&T’s help, the organization will continue to offer hands-on experiences to help young people understand the economics of life.”
