A North Kingstown man charged twice with breaking into an Exeter variety store this summer will be asking today in District Court for his bail to be reduced.

Patrick Dean, 29, of 165 Namcook Rd., has been held since Sept. 10 at the Adult Correctional Institutions on $1,000 cash bail.

The state police said Dean broke into the Exeter Variety Store, 250C South County Trail, first on Aug. 26, and again on Sept. 5, by smashing the front door with rocks.

According to the police, he took an undetermined amount of cash from the store and two rolls of scratch lottery tickets.

State troopers identified Dean from fingerprints on some of those lottery tickets he cashed at a North Kingstown gas station.

He was arrested on Sept. 7 in a Connecticut casino with the assistance from the Connecticut State Police, according to Lt. Kevin Hopkins, patrol commander at the Hope Valley barracks.

Dean was charged with two counts of breaking and entering at night with the intent to commit a felony, two counts of larceny over $500, and receiving stolen goods under $500 (namely, the lottery tickets).

A felony screening at the attorney general’s office has been scheduled Oct. 5.
