Tokyo, Oct. 1 (Jiji Press)–Softbank Mobile Corp. said Monday that it will team up with Siemens AG of Germany to reinforce its wireless communication module business.

Under their accord, Siemens will sell the products of its own brand, while Softbank Mobile, a unit of Internet and telecommunications business conglomerate Softbank Corp. , will offer the network. They intend to conduct joint marketing activities.

Softbank Mobile expects that the move will help the company to catch up with its rivals in the communication module business, while Siemens, which in 2006 enjoyed the top global share of 35 pct in the segment, aims to make a full-fledged entry into the Japanese market through the tie-up.

The HC28 Siemens Wireless Module, released Monday, is compatible with seven frequency bands of second- and third-generation wireless communication services and can be used in Japan and abroad.

The module is designed for use in data communications using personal computers and the remote management of machine tools and automobiles. Products loaded with the module may be launched as early as next spring, according to company officials.END
