Tier-1 Network Service Provider Selects Sunrise Telecom's STT Platform As Part of Their OC-192 Over DWDM Deployment
Posted on: Monday, 6 December 2004, 06:00 CST
SAN JOSE, Calif., Dec. 6 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Sunrise Telecom Incorporated announced today that the Scalable Test Toolkit (STT) has been selected by a North American Tier-1 service provider as the sole vender for their OC-192 transmission test needs. The STT was selected for its SONET test capabilities at OC-192, along with test interfaces at all rates down to 1.5Mb/s (T1). A key element in this decision is the expandability and flexibility of the platform, which also supports Ethernet testing, fiber cable analysis, DWDM circuit testing, dispersion analysis, IP telephony, mobile, traditional PSTN protocols, and other advanced voice- related service analysis. The first units have been shipped to the customer and are being pressed into service ahead of the rollout of the DWDM transmission system. Sunrise Telecom is scheduled to meet an aggressive plan to deploy a STT in each major central office throughout the service provider's region.
The STT was selected after a long-term competitive evaluation by the customer at several labs. All major aspects of this product were evaluated, including advanced SONET test features, user friendliness, integration with existing test procedures, and product flexibility. Sunrise Telecom was also praised for it's willingness to support the customer on several levels, including the development of new features, extensive product training and custom tailored job aids, to ensure that all test needs are fully met.
"Approval of the STT after this thorough evaluation reaffirms the product's viability as the definitive next generation test platform, said Bob Heintz, Vice President of Marketing and Sales, North America. He continued by saying that, "Customers see value in a platform that will economically keep their networks running now and well into the future."
Ildefonso M. Polo, Director of Product Marketing for Core and Transport products, adds, "Our customers used to associate Sunrise Telecom only with versatile handheld test sets for field applications. Fortunately we are expanding upon that image as we are being recognized in central office applications with instruments like the STT, which has already been well received by key customers in Asia, Europe, and now North America",
About the STT: Introduced in December of 2002, it supports a complete suite of testing capabilities for the evolving global telecom market.
-- SONET/SDH and T-carrier/PDH: Legacy transport at transmission rates
from 1.5Mb/s to 10Gb/s. Advanced features include automatic tributary
scan, pointer test sequences, APS/service disruption measurement, VF
testing, T-Carrier/PDH pulse mask analysis, and propagation delay
measurements. (STT-NAM)
-- Ethernet: Layer 1, 2, and 3 from 10Mb/s (10BaseT) to 10GigE and Fibre
Channel. Advanced test features include RFC2544, IP testing, packet
capture and decode, and traffic monitoring. (STT-Ethernet)
-- Fiber physical layer analysis: OTDR to 42 dB dynamic range, advanced
optical power meter and laser source, optical return loss measurement,
visible fault locator. (STT-FAM)
-- DWDM: Optical spectrum analysis for the O, E, S, C and L bands,
channel power, and optical signal to noise ratio. DWDM channel drop
across C and L bands at 50GHzspacing. Tunable laser across C and L
bands at 50GHz spacing. Tunable laser can be modulated at rates up to
10.7 Gb/s for transmission of SONET or Ethernet onto a DWDM channel.
(STT-DWDM)
-- Dispersion analysis: Polarization mode dispersion and chromatic
dispersion measurement in a single instrument, optimized for the field
environment. (STT-DTM)
-- PSTN, VoIP and 3G wireless protocol analysis: Advanced protocol
analysis, including protocol capture, filter, trace, and reporting.
Call Detail Records and correlation across different protocols. Call
generation and script-based simulations. (STT-MSA)
