Tokyo, Dec. 7 (Jiji Press)--Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. said Tuesday it is developing a graphics processor with Nvidia Corp. of the United States for its planned new video game console.
The graphics processor, together with a new microprocessor Sony is jointly developing with Toshiba Corp. and International business Machines Corp., will be used in the successor to SCE's PlayStation 2 game console.
Combining the two processors will realize the most powerful graphics performance ever, SCE officials said.
SCE President Ken Kutaragi said collaboration between SCE and Nvidia includes not only chip development but also a variety of graphics development tools and middleware.
Sony said it plans to apply technologies developed under its deal with Nvidia to its digital consumer electronics products in the future.END
