Qwest Expands Wholesale Gigabit Ethernet Services to 10 Gigabits
Posted on: Tuesday, 9 October 2007, 09:00 CDT
Qwest Communications International Inc. (NYSE: Q) today announced it will offer wholesale customers Dedicated Internet Access (DIA) over Ethernet with speeds from 2 Gigabits per second (Gbps) up to 10 Gbps within key U.S. metropolitan markets.
Wholesale customers requiring a large amount of bandwidth -- such as major international carriers, content providers, cable companies, resellers and wireless carriers -- can now order Qwest DIA over Ethernet in 1 Gbps increments to consolidate Internet traffic and realize significant cost advantages. This enhancement allows customers to pay only for the bandwidth they need and to increase or decrease network capacity easily.
Qwest DIA over Ethernet sets a new standard for Internet connectivity, with one of the most advanced national MPLS networks available, best-in-class service level agreements and some of the highest customer access speeds in the industry today. Ethernet is a scalable and easily provisioned broadband data access and transport protocol that provides customers with virtually limitless bandwidth at a fraction of the cost of more traditional technologies.
"A few years ago, people didn't think companies would require this much bandwidth," said Roland Thornton, executive vice president, Wholesale markets. "But with video on-demand and voice over Internet Protocol, we're here now. The Gigabit Ethernet enhancement provides customers with the extraordinary bandwidth they need."
Qwest will be showing this, as well as the rest of the comprehensive product and solutions suite for wholesale customers, at booth number 602 at CompTel.
