Symantec Helps Grow Consumer Confidence Online With Internet Security Software Offered Through Three New Partnerships
Posted on: Tuesday, 9 October 2007, 09:00 CDT
Symantec (NASDAQ: SYMC) today announced the expansion of their consumer reach with three new partnerships to distribute Norton security software to consumers. Norton Security Scan, an easy-to-use PC scanning tool that informs users if they've been infected with viruses and/or spyware, will be offered to consumers that install the Adobe(R) Shockwave(TM) Player. Norton Internet Security, an industry leading security solution that identifies and protects against new and emerging online threats, will be available for download through the ING DIRECT Web site (www.ingdirect.com). In addition, further expanding its relationship with Symantec, Intel will offer its Intel authorized system builders a complimentary 90-day subscription of Norton 360, the company's flagship consumer product, for installation on white box systems that are sold to end-users.
"We are committed to providing new and creative programs to provide more and more consumers with needed Internet security software," said Vincent Steckler, senior VP, worldwide consumer sales, Symantec. "Through these agreements, our partners are helping their customers by arming them with powerful tools that help them identify, understand and deal with threats that may reside on their PCs."
Norton Security Scan Provided With Adobe Shockwave
For the first time, millions of consumers worldwide who download and install Adobe Shockwave can now benefit from increased security awareness with Norton Security Scan from Symantec. The partnership helps keep millions of Adobe's customers secure by providing an on-demand security assessment tool that quickly detects and reports on viruses, spyware and malware, and allows them to upgrade to Norton Internet Security or Norton 360 at a special discount. With increased threats that accompany rich online content -- including multimedia and other documents, Adobe Shockwave users who install Norton Security Scan can have the confidence that potential threats are identified through on-demand or weekly scheduled security assessments so they can take the necessary steps to remediate these risks and ensure proactive security.
Norton Security Scan is a powerful and easy-to-use tool to help computer users evaluate threats that may reside on their PCs. With an easy-to-use interface, users can either run a full scan of their system or run a QuickScan, which is a fast scan of the areas of their computer that are most likely to be targeted by security threats. Norton Security Scan automatically detects and receives regular updates, so it can effectively identify the latest virus and spyware threats.
Norton Internet Security free from ING DIRECT for 90 days
Symantec also joined forces with global financial service leader, ING DIRECT, to offer a 90-day version of Norton Internet Security to help consumers proactively protect their computers against threats from viruses, spyware, phishing scams and other online threats. According to recent research sponsored by Symantec, consumers look to financial institutions and Internet security companies for online protection. By downloading and installing Norton Internet Security, ING DIRECT customers can be assured that they have the necessary security when banking online to conduct online transactions safely.
Norton Internet Security automatically detects and blocks viruses, spyware and worms; provides advanced phishing protection, intrusion prevention and network protection; and has a smart firewall to block hackers and stop spyware from transmitting unauthorized information.
Intel to Provide Additional Security Offerings through Authorized System Builders
Intel Corporation will now provide a complimentary 90-day subscription of Norton 360, Symantec's flagship consumer product, to their authorized system builders, value-added resellers, and system integrators worldwide for pre-installation on white box systems configured with Intel(R) Desktop Boards. With Norton 360, Intel(R) Channel Partner members can now preinstall Symantec's proven all-in-one solution for antivirus, antispyware, firewall, intrusion protection, antiphishing, backup and tuneup on systems intended for resale.
Norton 360 joins a line-up of award-winning Norton consumer solutions, including Norton Internet Security and Norton AntiVirus, already being offered to Intel's fast growing system builder community. Intel-based PCs are sold worldwide through more than 187,000 Intel channel partner members in 160 countries. End users who convert from a pre-installed Norton complementary subscription to a full 12-month subscription may do so at a discounted purchase price.
