HP launches new servers for data center
LOS ANGELES, June 30 (Xinhua) -- World leading computer maker HP on Monday introduced a powerful and cost-saving line of servers based on Intel's new Itanium 2 1.5-gigahertz processor, claiming that it would redefines data center economics.
HP said its new line of standards-based, 64-bit servers could offer customers an unmatched cost-efficiency, saving up 1 million US dollars in total three-year cost over similar products provided by its arch rival IBM.
The Integrity server family introduced by HP ranges from one- and two-processor entry-level systems up to a 64-processor Integrity Superdome server, featuring high-performance and multi- operating systems. The systems are backed by more than 700 applications from major independent software vendors in both commercial and technical arenas.
"Today is the day Itanium-based systems move mainstream," said Peter Blackmore, executive vice president of the HP Enterprise Systems Group. "Customers no longer need to choose between high- performance computing and industry-standard economics."
HP said its Integrity Superdome server is the world's fastest commercial processing machine with a price performance ratio that is better than each of its high-end competitors and comes in 16-, 32- and 64-processor configurations. The server is also the first that can run UNIX, Windows and Linux simultaneously on a single system.
"This capability further enhances choice, flexibility and investment protection and is not found in competitive offerings," HP said in a statement. "Customers can now consolidate resources from heterogeneous environments, increasing scalability, availability and performance with fewer resources, resulting in even better return on IT."
HP said its Integrity Superdome servers are orderable immediately with estimated prices starting at 262,000 dollars. The prices of its Integrity rx5670 and rx2600 entry-level servers are listed at 21,500 and 7,300 dollars, respectively.
