NetLogic Microsystems Delivers Knowledge-Based Processors for Juniper's E-Series Edge Routers
Posted on: Thursday, 9 December 2004, 09:00 CST
NetLogic Microsystems, Inc. (NASDAQ: NETL), the leader in the design and development of knowledge-based processors, today announced that it is delivering its NL5000 knowledge-based processors for Juniper Networks (NASDAQ: JNPR), E-series platform edge routers.
"We believe Juniper's E-series platform further validates the acceptance of our knowledge-based processors by industry leaders in various end-market segments," said Martyn Humphries, vice president of Marketing for NetLogic Microsystems. "We are continuing to demonstrate our track record of being the first to deliver the highest performance and highest technology devices in the marketplace, making our knowledge-based processors a perfect fit for Juniper's E-series platform edge routers."
Juniper's E-series platform edge router is a central component of the infranet edge. Its modular architecture, which enables customers to add capacity and services as their needs grow, has been deployed in many different roles in the world's largest broadband networks. The E-series platform is capable of providing multiple services including: broadband remote access server, broadband video services, dedicated access, VoIP, Internet access, security services, network address translation and others, on a single platform.
Juniper has also used NetLogic Microsystems' products in two prior generations of edge router products. NetLogic Microsystems' ability to consistently be the first to deliver the performance and features that the high-end edge router market requires, has allowed NetLogic Microsystems to steadily increase the knowledge-based processor content in Juniper's E-series platform designs.
The key to knowledge-based processor design is the use of parallel processing and deep pipelining techniques, which allow devices to handle multiple tasks simultaneously, including forwarding, QoS classification and ACL security, at higher throughput rates. Using these techniques, NetLogic Microsystems' knowledge-based processors enable networking systems to meet the needs of both today's demanding 10-Gigabit Ethernet systems as well as future generations of networking systems, which will require even more complex, wire-speed processing.
NetLogic Microsystems' NL5000 knowledge-based processors are built on an advanced 7-layer copper 0.13um CMOS logic process with high-speed and low-power transistors. In conjunction with the NL5000 processors' innovative architecture, the high-speed transistors available on TSMC's 0.13um process maximize performance, enabling processor speeds in excess of 300MHz, which is the fastest available for these applications today, while achieving lower power than can be attained with less advanced processes that may have lower speed transistors or more resistive aluminum interconnects.
NetLogic Microsystems NL5000 processors are available in production quantities now. For volume pricing information please contact sales@netlogicmicro.com. For more information on these products, visit: http://www.netlogicmicro.com/products/kbp.html.
