ZyXEL Communications Equips UNH-IOL With High-Speed Wireless Network; Donated Base Stations Will Blanket Laboratory With 802.11g Network

The University of New Hampshire InterOperability Laboratory (UNH-IOL) today announced a donation by ZyXEL Communications to equip their laboratory with high-speed wireless Internet access.
The laboratory will use ZyXEL's six ZyAIR G-1000 Wireless LAN 54Mbps wireless access points to upgrade the wireless infrastructure in its approximately 32,000 square foot facility. The devices will be used for the laboratory's communications network, providing wireless connectivity to over 100 people.
"ZyXEL recognizes the value that the UNH-IOL provides by offering a unique educational experience for its students while providing cost-effective testing services for technology organizations," said Munira Brooks, senior vice president of sales, marketing and business development, ZyXEL.
The UNH-IOL is committed to providing students with a hands-on educational experience that combines industry involvement and apprenticeship training. "Because the lab is testing numerous technologies in a space roughly half the size of a football field, it is important for students and employees to have superior wireless networking performance to better facilitate internal communications," added Brooks. "ZyXEL is pleased to provide the lab with an advanced wireless networking solution. ZyXEL supports the lab's effort to improve the state of interoperability within the data communications industry."
The ZyAIR G-1000s are compliant with the IEEE 802.11b and g standards. They contain powerful security mechanisms such as IEEE 802.1x user authentication and Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA), both of which allow users to communicate and access data with efficient link quality and high-level network security.
"With these new Access Points, we will have full IEEE 802.11g coverage throughout the lab space with no wireless connectivity issues," said Matthew Langlois, DSL Consortium manager. "These APs are very easy to configure and install and appear to have excellent wireless performance."
