TheInfoPro (TIP), www.theinfopro.net, an independent research network and leading supplier of market intelligence for the Information Technology (IT) industry, today announced that the fallout from data breaches within Fortune 1000 (F1000) organizations has elevated Data Encryption to the top Information Security (IS) project through mid-2008, over-taking compliance and regulatory requirements.

According to TIP's Wave 9 Information Security Study -- which provides continuous market data on technologies, industry opportunities, and trends in the Information Security market -- data encryption technologies rank among the top 5 Infrastructure Security technologies on TIP's Technology Heat Index®, which gauges the immediacy of user needs and planned spending. The application of data encryption for wireless networking is first among eight priority uses for encryption, followed by web applications; full disk encryption for laptops and workstations; and messaging applications, such as email and instant messaging.
End users say they have turned primarily to PGP -- the lead in use vendor -- for their data encryption needs. Other vendors in plan or in consideration include, Check Point, Credant, Cyber-Ark, GuardianEdge, Liquid Machines, Microsoft, NetApp, Oracle, Protegrity, SafeBoot, SafeNet, Utimaco, Verdasys, and Vontu.
"IS Professionals have named compliance as a top pain point. This is due, primarily, to data breaches that have occurred, in addition to the real possibility that one could occur at anytime," said Bill Trussell, TIP's Managing Director of Information Security Research. "In effort to address this top pain point, F1000 organizations have switched their focus to data encryption -- particularly full disk encryption for laptops and workstations, as enterprises realize the potential for data leakage and breaches due to loss or theft of disks from these devices."
Over 150 Fortune 1000 end users were interviewed for the Wave 9 Security Study, providing commentary and insight on their security adoption plans, management strategies, and vendor performance. Information Security Technology providers that were mentioned throughout the study include: 3Com, ActivIdentity, Aladdin, AmbironTrustWave, Application Security, Inc., Atos Origin, ASPG, Attachmate, Authentix, BearingPoint, Blue Coat, Blue Ridge Networks, BMC Software, BorederWare, Breach Security, Inc, Burton Group, Cenza, Cenzic, Check Point, Credent, Cyber-Ark, CSC, EDS, eEye, Entersys, F5 Networks, Fluke Networks, F-Secure, Fujitsu Siemens, Gemalto, GuardianEdge, Liquid Machine, Microsoft, NetApp, Neohapsis, NeoScale, Nokia, Oracle, PassGo, Passlogix, PKWARE, Proofpoint, Protegrity, Rapid7, Reconnex, Red Hat, SafeBoot, Safelet., Sana Security, SAP, ScriptLogic, Sentillion, Siemens AG, Sophos, Tata, Third Brigade, TriCipher, Utimaco, Vanco, Verdasys, Vontu, WhiteHat Security, Wipro, and ZixCorp
