Unisys Unveils Services & Solutions to Help Organizations Unify and Simplify Their Communications Using New Microsoft Unified Communications Technologies
Posted on: Tuesday, 16 October 2007, 15:00 CDT
Unisys Corporation (NYSE:UIS) announced new services and solutions that expand its long-standing alliance with Microsoft Corporation. Today, Unisys unveils its Messaging and Unified Communications services aimed to help people-ready businesses use new Microsoft unified communications technologies to unify and simplify their communications platform.
The new Unisys services, combined with Microsoft technologies such as Microsoft Office Communicator 2007 and Microsoft Exchange Server 2007, help organizations to "converge" their disparate voice, data, and video communications technologies into a unified Internet Protocol (IP)-based network infrastructure. Such unified communications platforms can enable faster and more accurate decision making, immediate access to information, and the ability to be connected to one another despite widely-dispersed geographic locations and mobile environments.
Unisys services and solutions are built upon the company's extensive experience in providing enterprise-class services that support Microsoft technologies. For example, the Alabama Criminal Justice Information Center recently tapped Unisys to consolidate Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 onto a Unisys ES7000 server environment. Together, the two organizations created a new and more efficient network interface for more than 12,500 Alabama government employees who protect and serve their 4,500,000 constituents each day.
"As we investigated the increased capability of Microsoft Exchange Server 2007, it was clear that we would need a new deployment strategy to fully utilize this functionality. This strategy also had to address any adverse environmental effects of server and data center sprawl," said Maury Mitchell, director, Alabama Criminal Justice Information Center. "Consolidating Exchange Server 2007 onto the Unisys ES7000 gave us a real alternative to 'old school' scale-out-only approaches. We now have a flexible, rapid deployment foundation for future growth."
"Microsoft's strategic relationship with Unisys provides our enterprise customers with new levels of business value, helping to create efficient, high-quality communication and collaboration experiences," said Kim Akers, general manager, Unified Communications Group at Microsoft Corp. "Combining Microsoft unified communications software with Unisys trusted services and technologies offers customers a security-enhanced and scalable communications experience."
Unisys is one of the largest providers of enterprise-class services and solutions based on Microsoft technologies. The new Unisys services announced today provide clients with a simplified approach to creating, storing, and retrieving messages and communications across a global organization, using Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 and Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007.
Unisys professional services capabilities that support this messaging and unified communications initiative include:
Unisys business blueprinting methodology and convergence roadmap development
Infrastructure consulting
Desktop and device life-cycle management
Security and networking
Microsoft Exchange Server consolidation
Disaster recovery services
Identity and access management
"Unisys understands how to use these new technologies to help our clients improve every part of their business, from their communications strategy to the way they interact and share critical information," said Jim Boak, vice president, Microsoft and Intel Strategic Alliances, Unisys. "Because Unisys has implemented the latest Microsoft solutions internally, including migrating our entire intranet to Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007, we know how to help our own customers map their future communications platform strategy with these latest Microsoft offerings."
Another example of Unisys leadership in the Microsoft unified communications environment is the managed Exchange Server 2007 trial service that Microsoft and Unisys unveiled in April 2007. This trial service allows Microsoft clients to do a "test run" of the latest version of Exchange Server 2007. Since launching this service to the public, Unisys is approaching 20,000 supported Microsoft users and is ready to handle significantly more. Further, Unisys continues to see increased interest in Exchange Server 2007 and the Microsoft unified communications offerings across the Unisys enterprise customer base.
