Microsoft Names Real-Time Collaboration Platform Partners

Posted on: Wednesday, 17 October 2007, 06:00 CDT

Microsoft has formally introduced its renamed real-time collaboration platform, now called Office Communications Server, and unveiled a raft of partners working on software or devices to work with the platform, which is the successor to Live Communications Server.

Nortel has announced the imminent availability of "software-based solutions and applications to enhance OCS as part of the Innovative Communications Alliance", while Ericsson has unveiled the Ericsson Mobility Gateway, a PBX extension product, which Microsoft described as "built on VoIP call management in OCS to bring office comms to any mobile device, reducing mobile costs and maximizing existing investments."

In addition, Microsoft said that together with SAP, it plans "to integrate OCS with Duet, their jointly developed product which provides access to SAP processes and data through Microsoft Office applications," enabling users to see presence and click to communicate while working within the Duet environment.

There were also hardware announcements from Tandberg and Polycom.
