THREE men arrested in connection with a serious assault will not face court proceedings.

The assault took place outside a takeaway shop in New-biggin-by- the-Sea, Northumberland, on Friday, August 3.

An 18-year-old local man was outside The Continental at around 10.15pm and got involved in an altercation with a number of people.

He suffered a substantial head injury and was taken to Wansbeck Hospital for treatment and later allowed home. Three men were arrested on suspicion of assault and given bail pending further inquiries.

Police also appealed for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward at the time.

The trio, all from Newbiggin, answered bail yesterday and two of them – aged 40 and 30 – were told no further action was to be taken.

A 35-year-old man was cautioned for assault and released.
