India and Pakistan Join Forces to Promote IT: FiveRivers Announces Application Support for India’s Aakaash Tablet

Lahore-based FiveRivers Technologies and Pepper.pk will port their application catalogue to India’s low-cost tablet to make it more useful and effective for end-users

FiveRivers Technologies and its mobile applications subsidiary, Pepper.pk, announced today that they will support the recently launched low-cost Aakaash tablet from India. Following the commercial availability of Aakaash in November, Pepper.pk will begin porting a relevant subset of their over 150 applications to the new platform. Pepper.pkâs award winning portfolio of applications includes three World #1 titles, including the four-time AppWorld #1 app, Photo Editor.

The Aakaash tablet, priced at USD $60, is sponsored by the Government of India and is intended for widespread distribution in rural and urban areas, specifically to promote literacy and education. The tablet is based on Googleâs Android operating system and is equipped with a 366 Mhz processor and a 7â resistive touch-screen. The device will be manufactured by Canadaâs DataWind Ltd. The project is the brain-child of Indiaâs Minister for Human Resource Development, Mr. Kapil Sibal.
