During Fire Prevention Week, FireWhat Inc. Reminds You: Safety is No Accident

October 13, 2011

FireWhat Inc. of Dunsmuir, CA is giving away free smoke detectors for Fire Prevention Week.

Dunsmuir, CA (PRWEB) October 13, 2011

The National Fire Prevention Association, since 1896, has sponsored National Fire Prevention Week. Take this time to review the protocols and equipment you have in your house, re-educate yourself on their location and use, and repair or replace any used or expired equipment before you need it.

Todayâs FireWhat Inc. safety tip: Smoke detectors. Insure there is a smoke detector in every room of the house. Check the NFPA website for directions on placement, including height and distance from walls. Hard-wired smoke detectors (those not battery-powered) should always be installed by a licensed electrician. Test smoke detectors, and keep them clean, and powered with fresh batteries.

Not enough smoke detectors/smoke alarms in your house? Between 2003 and 2006, two-thirds of all fire-related deaths and injuries occurred in houses without smoke alarms.

Just over this past weekend, Portland, Oregon Fire and Rescue reported two deaths in separate fire incidents. One man was injured as he tried to save his wife from the flames. One firefighter was also injured.

The New Orleans, Louisiana Fire Department responded to three large fire incidents in a twelve-hour period over the past weekend. One of these included the Zeta Psi fraternity chapter house at Tulane University.

Stop by our Dunsmuir office for a free smoke alarm, from 9 am to 5 pm during National Fire Prevention Week, and help Protect Your Family From Fire.
