IceWarpâs standards-based architecture allows BlackBerry devices users to bypass the RIM infrastructure.

IceWarp customers with Blackberry BlackBerry devices were largely unaffected by the Research in Motion (RIM) outage, global messaging and collaborations solutions provider announced Friday. IceWarpâs architecture allows its users to bypass the RIM infrastructure and connect a BlackBerry device directly to the corporate e-mail server.

IceWarpâs architecture is based on universal standards, doesnât depend on any client and supports all mobile devices currently on the market, including the just-announced iPhone 4S iOS5 with the new capability of syncing reminders (tasks) and secure email encryption using S/MIME certificates.

âœThe outage reached monstrous proportions because of the RIM email synchronization structure,â explains Ladislav Goc, IceWarp President. âœWhen you activate a BlackBerry device, it sends your mail server information, username and password to the RIM global data center. Then the BlackBerry mail server uses the email connection information to retrieve messages from your corporate email, put them into the Blackberry servers and then push them back to your BlackBerry device. Such dependency is very dangerous. If the RIM servers are affected, millions of people are cut from their business-critical applications.â

While BlackBerry devices are gradually losing their market share, IceWarp believes they still have a future in the corporate world.

âœMillions of businesses are used to them, and the only bottleneck that needs to be removed is the RIM synchronization dependency,â continues Mr. Goc. âœWe solved this problem some time ago. With IceWarp Server installed in your office or your data center you can cut the RIM infrastructure out.â

IceWarp recommends the following steps to remove the RIM server synchronization dependency:

1.    Install IceWarp server.

2.    Install synchronization software based on SyncML or ActiveSync standards to your BlackBerry device.

3.    Set synchronization to your IceWarp server. The standard “RIM Route” will be replaced by direct synchronization of the BlackBerry mobile device with your corporate email without going through the RIM datacenter.

âœAdvantages are obvious,â concludes Mr. Goc. âœYour emails are not dependent on the RIM datacenter behavior, your emails are stored on your companyâs own server, and you can still use your favorite BlackBerry device!â
