OpenTable Diners Reveal the Top 50 Wine Lists in the U.S.

October 18, 2011

SAN FRANCISCO, Oct. 18, 2011 /PRNewswire/ — As vineyards around the country harvest the grapes that will become tomorrow’s wines, OpenTable, Inc. (NASDAQ: OPEN; www.opentable.com), a leading provider of free, real-time online restaurant reservations for diners and reservation and guest management solutions for restaurants, is pleased to announce the Diners’ Choice Awards for the top 50 restaurants with the most notable wine lists in the United States. The list of winners is derived from more than 10 million reviews submitted by OpenTable diners for more than 12,000 restaurants in all 50 states and the District of Columbia.

This geographically diverse list of winners, which includes Aureole in Las Vegas, Frasca Food and Wine in Boulder and Veritas in New York, highlights 50 restaurants in 21 different states. California, arguably home to the nation’s best wine producers, boasts an impressive 11 award-winning restaurants. New York, Maryland and Virginia establishments took four spots apiece, while North Carolina and Washington boasted three each. Colorado, Delaware, Illinois, Michigan and Nevada are home to two honorees each, while additional states to earn a place on the list include Connecticut, Kansas, Ohio, Oregon, Texas and Wisconsin, among others.

“The sommeliers at the winning restaurants put as much passion into carefully curating their wine lists as chefs put into their menus,” says Caroline Potter, OpenTable’s Chief Dining Officer. “Similarly, creating a wine list isn’t a one-time venture for these professionals; they constantly adjust their selections to reflect what is happening in vineyards and wineries each year — as well as in their own kitchens each season. The honorees on this list understand that restaurants are where diners discover new wines and they continue to honor this by pouring the finest wines at the right time.”

Based on feedback collected from OpenTable diners between October 2010 and September 2011, the following 50 restaurants, listed in alphabetical order, received the highest scores for having notable wine lists from OpenTable diners.
