Barnes & Noble Expected To Unveil New Nook Color Next Week
Barnes & Noble is expected to unveil a new Nook Color e-reader during an upcoming Tablet Event on November 7th, the Wall Street Journal reported on Monday.
The book retailer sent out invitations to the event, asking journalists and analysts to attend a news conference for a "very special announcement" that day.
Some believe the event, which is set to begin at 9:30 ET Monday morning in New York, is Barnes & Noble´s response to Amazon's new Kindle Fire tablet, which will debut November 15. The online retailer began accepting pre-orders for the $199 device in September. In addition to its e-reader capabilities, the Kindle Fire will be able to surf the web, stream movies and TV and support thousands of apps.
However, Barnes & Noble did not disclose precisely what it would be revealing at next Monday´s event, which comes just ahead of the busy holiday shopping season.
The Nook currently comes in several iterations, including a $139 black-and-white touch screen reader dubbed ℠The Simple Touch Reader´, along with a $249 Nook Color reader that includes a web browser and supports apps and email.
Although nothing has been confirmed, Barnes & Noble could be revealing a price reduction on the Nook Color, to at least match the Kindle Fire's $199 price, said Simba Information senior trade analyst Michael Norris during an interview with the Journal.
Or it could be that additional capabilities, such as video streaming, have been added, he said.
