Half Adult Cell Phone Users Have Applications

November 3, 2011

According to a new study, half of all adult cell phone owners have applications on their devices.

The study by Pew Internet & American Life Project said that the amount of adult cell phone users who have downloaded an app on their phone has doubled in the past two years.

According to Pew, in September 2009, 22 percent of adults downloaded apps to their phone.  This number rose to 38 percent in August 2011.

The survey also found that adults who purchased a phone already equipped with apps increased five percentage points in the past year, going from 38 percent in May 2010 to 43 percent in 2011.

When both the groups are accounted for, half of adult cell phone owners now have apps on their phone, which is up from 43 percent compared to over a year ago.

Pew surveyed 2,260 adults ages 18 and over from July 25 and August 26, 2011 for the study.
