Smartphone Use Up In All Age Groups
Nielsen released a survey of mobile phone users this week covering the third quarter of 2011. The survey shows that smartphone use is up in all age groups. The age group with the highest penetration of smartphone users year over year are 25 to 34 year olds. In 2010 the third quarter showed that 41% of mobile users in that age group used smartphones in the third quarter of 2011 that age group increased to 62%.
In the survey, those who were 18 to 24 years old were at 54% of users. Users who were 35 to 44 years old carried 53%. Above 44 years old the number of smartphone users decreases. The age group that showed the lowest penetration of smartphone users was the 65 year olds and up, with only 18% of users using smartphones.
Overall the survey found 43% of mobile phone customers used smartphones. Of the smartphone users Google´s Android OS has the most users at 43%. Apple remains the largest manufacturer of smartphones. The iPhone carries 28% of the smartphone market. RIM Blackberry is 18%, and Windows Mobile is 7%.
