IGN to Offer Exclusive Live Stream of Minecon
Minecon will celebrate the launch of Minecraft – the breakout hit from indie game development studio Mojang
San Francisco , CA (PRWEB) November 03, 2011
IGN Entertainment, the world’s leading video games media company, has partnered with indie development studio Mojang to be the official live video streaming partner for Minecon, the first-ever conference dedicated to Minecraft, the mega breakout indie hit.
To date, Minecraft – which launches on November 18th – has more than 15 million registered users, nearly four million of which have already purchased the game.
As the official streaming partner for Minecon – which will take place November 18-19 at Mandalay Bay Hotel in Las Vegas – IGN will offer exclusive video content live from the show floor, including extensive video coverage of Minecraft panels and discussions, community events, and the highly-anticipated keynote speech from Minecraft creator, Notch. IGN’s live stream of Minecon will be available at http://www.ign.com/events/minecon/.
“We are thrilled to partner with Mojang to bring live, on-the-ground video coverage of Minecon to millions of fans,†said Sam Kennedy, Director of Audience Generation, IGN Entertainment. “Now Minecraft players around the world will be able to join in the celebration of the game’s launch.”
“MineCon is going to be the most important event in the history of Minecraft. Not only are we finally releasing the full version of Minecraft, we’re also celebrating it with several thousand of our fans on location in Las Vegas, and even more people watching it from home on the live stream†– Notch, creator of Minecraft.
Minecon will celebrate the official release of Minecraft and feature an Indie Developer Theater, an exhibit hall featuring top gaming companies, panels on a variety of Minecraft topics, costume contests, parties, the Mojang team and more. Minecon has officially sold out, with more than 4,500 people headed to Vegas for this first-time event. It is the latest event for which IGN has served as official media and live stream partner – in August IGN was tapped by Microsoft to be the official media partner for HaloFest – the first-ever event surrounding the award-winning Halo franchise – and for the past two years, the company has partnered with YouTube to be the official live stream partner for the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3).
IGN has been on a role as of late with its video content, pulling in more than 100 million views last month alone and more than 1 billion views to date on Youtube. Recently IGN.com has hosted exclusive, pre-release live streams in partnership with leading game publishers, including Activision’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 and NAMCO’s Dark Souls. It also broke traffic records by hosting a first-of-its-kind live viewing event surrounding the trailer debut for Rockstar’s GTA 5. The live stream of IGN’s most recent eSports tournament drew in more than 12 million views alone.
