The International Multilateral Partnership Against Cyber Threats (IMPACT) Releases “IMPACT Activity Report 2008-2011”

IMPACT has released âœIMPACTâs 2008-2011 Activity Reportâ. 2008-2011 was a period of rapid growth for ITU-IMPACT and firmly cemented its leading position as a global cybersecurity organisation. Today, with 137 partner countries formally part of the coalition and with strong support from global industry giants and prestigious partners from the academia, ITU-IMPACT has become the largest cybersecurity alliance of its kind in the world.

The landmark agreement signed with the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) in Geneva last May positions IMPACT as the cybersecurity executing arm of the United Nations’ (UN) specialised agency. Under the arrangement, IMPACT is entrusted with the task of providing cybersecurity support and services to ITU Member States and other organisations within the UN system.

In the last 36 months alone, ITU-IMPACT has provided cybersecurity capabilities, services and technical assistance to Member States around the world. These include organising dozens of capacity building programmes across different continents and the deployment of over 200 cybersecurity scholarships in over 40 countries – a remarkable achievement for an organisation that is barely four years old.

Last October, IMPACT also appointed His Excellency Blaise Compaoré, President of Burkina Faso has been appointed as the new Chairman of IMPACTâs International Advisory Board (IAB). The handover of the IAB Chairmanship was held in conjunction with the 2nd IAB meeting held during ITU Telecom World 2011 Summit in Geneva, Switzerland.

During the 2nd IAB meeting, ITU-IMPACT shared its achievements and plans with its board members who have provided their strategic advice and directions in moving forward. Some of ITU-IMPACTâs key partners include; Microsoft, Kaspersky Lab, Symantec, Trend Micro, SANS Institute, (ISC)2, APWG and EC-Council.

ITU-IMPACTâs global partnership today sees over 200 industry, academia and international organisations coming together to enhance the global communityâs capability and capacity to combat cyber threats.
