Kindle Fires Up Amazon Sales
Amazon Kindle devices fired up sales at Amazon.com, selling more than 4 times as many of the devices over last year when they only sold an e-reader.
This year they are selling the new Kindle Fire tablet, which is part of Amazon´s plan to increase sales of its digital products such as e-books, apps, video games, music and movies. At $199 dollars the Android powered Fire was the best-selling product on Amazon.com on Black Friday and has been since the product was announced eight-weeks ago.
Dave Limp, vice president Amazon Kindle, told Reuters “We´re seeing a lot of customers buying multiple Kindles – one for themselves and others as gifts – we expect this trend to continue on Cyber Monday and through the holiday season.”
In order to get as many of the devices in the hands of consumers as possible, Amazon is selling the device in retail stores. In Target Stores, the Kindle Fire was the best selling tablet, even outselling the popular iPad2, even while Target was offering a $75 gift certificate to consumers who bought the iPad2 with 3G.
Analysts told investors on Monday, “Now Amazon has a more competitive suite of hardware, its hardware share should increase, and its ebook share should follow.”
