Richmond, VA (PRWEB) December 16, 2011
Earth Force and the General Motors Foundation are excited to announce Teddy Dillingham, of
River Legacy Nature and Science Center, has won a Chevrolet GREEN Educator Award. The Chevrolet GREEN Educator Award recognizes teachers, college professors and volunteers who have taken an initiative to integrate environmental education into their schools and community programs.
âœWe are excited to join Earth Force in honoring Ms. Dillingham for her amazing work fostering the next generation of leaders,â said Vivian Pickard, President of the GM Foundation. âœEducators like Ms. Dillingham represent the very best of our educational system, and we are proud to join them in engaging Americaâs youth as leaders.â
Dillingham is a naturalist and educator at the River Legacy Nature and Science Center in Arlington, Texas. She has actively led the center and GREEN partnership development in water and environmental science education, integrating STEM and curriculum advancements which significantly benefit local school teaching and testing.
Dillingham eagerly spearheaded the resurrection of the centerâs dormant Scout programs, expanded the Saturday offerings for families and adults and enthusiastically agreed to be River Legacy’s coordinator in the implementation of a new GREEN program for Arlington Independent School District’s seventh graders. In partnership with Arlington’s General Motors operation and the Arlington School District, this exciting environmental education and community service learning curriculum will allow River Legacy to extend its reach into the city’s junior high schools and build on the foundations laid by the environmental education programs they provide for the District’s younger grades.
âœIt is such an honor for Earth Force to recognize educators, like Teddy, for the Chevrolet GREEN Educator Award,â said Lisa Bardwell, President/CEO of Earth Force. âœShe has gone above and beyond the call of duty to inspire and support her students in taking action to improve their communities. Each of the educators receiving this award has done an exemplary job of incorporating environmental awareness and civic action into formal instruction.â
Educators of all kinds, including K-12 classroom teachers, higher education faculty and informal community-based instructors who have made a substantial effort to promote environmental engagement among youth are eligible for the award. The GM Foundation and Earth Force will reward 5 educators each month in the search to find the 20 best âœGREENâ educators nationwide. Winners will also be featured on the Earth Force website, along with their teaching tools and ways they get their students involved. Some prerequisites for possible award winners are: keeping students active in their community, helping students understand the importance of the relationship between civic life and environmental health, and also encouraging other educators, administration, and community members to do the same.
